BL is Recruiting C64 demo
« on: February 13, 2014, 11:13:45 pm »
Hey guys,

It has been a while!

Ronny of SOS, JSL and I are planning to make a C64 demo consisting of an atmospheric 3SID tune, nice picture of Indy problaby with sprites and a scroller named Binary Legends is Recruiting.

I guess you guys are interested in this and want to write a text for in the scroller?

OK! Later!

Yogi.

That sound really nice, do you want to open/join/dance/create/make/do a Binary Legends C64 Division?

We already kind of have a small presence for the C64. I created a Binary Legends group on Commodore Scene Database and edited an old demo and text adventure into Binary Legends releases.
http://csdb.dk/group/?id=6491

These two releases are also up on our forum as well:
http://binarylegends.net/forum/index.php/board,10.0.html

(In fact, I have been wanting to tweak the Sammy Marlo adventures again a little bit, and contacted JSL about drawing up a nifty title screen, which he did)

But I definitely would like to set up and organize a proper C64 division, for three reasons:
#1 - Expanding to a different platform gets our name out more into the retro-community
#2 - We might be able to draw in some additional team members as a result
#3 - I have a soft spot in my heart for the C64 as it was the computer that I grew up on

So I'm definitely interested in doing this.  :D

Yogi, let me know some more info about the planned demo and what you want for the scroll text (IE length, format, etc)

Well the first part of the music is very atmospheric.
Here you can find a preview:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98085752/indy%201st%20part.mp3
After this part I planned an uptempo Matt Gray inspired part which consists of 2 tracks electric
guitar sounds like in Tim Follin's C64 Led Storm title music.
What a luxury to be able to use 9 tracks!

The pic shows Indy which fills the screen 2/3 with a moving sprite logo on top of it so there is some room
for text in the right side of the screen.
Maybe something with BL and 7 Cities of Gold or so?
Plus there will be a border scroller.

The text may be as long as you want and a simple .txt file will do like in Notepad or so.
You must try to make people enthusiastic to help you guys with your coming pc game.
So some info of the 7 Cities of Gold game must be in it. Some info about BL etc. etc.

OK! Till next message.

Yogi.

Definitely sounds like demo / scener type music.  :D

I'm hoping that there will be at least a brief Indy theme fanfare worked into the demo somewhere.  :D  :hat:

BL logo and 7 Cities of Gold logo would be good. Is the background going to be in multicolor character mode or bitmap mode?

Do you want me to talk about who did what in the demo? If so, can you give me a credits list?

Or are you going to take care of that?

By the way - is this demo going to run on both NTSC and PAL machines?

Also, thanks for offering to do this demo!  :)

>OK! I can start with the Indy theme.

>I think we'll do that ourselves.

>I'm discussing this with Ronny/SOS. I also send a mail to Roland Hermans (NEO) about this.

Also, thanks for offering to do this demo!  :)

>Yeah nice idea huh!? :)
Must say that Ronny is pretty busy and my music needs instruments done by Roland.
So it will not be finished soon. But we'll get there!

CU!

Here's the scroll text that I came up with:

There's both a Word and plain .txt file in the Mediafire folder:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/wn7011nwff64o/Demo_Scroll_Text

Let me know what you think.

whatever you do, you MUST record it an upload it to youtube. Even if it's with your smartphone.

It's very well written! It would fit the demo good for sure! :)

P.S. Do you guys mind if JSL converts an Indy pic from the internet and adapts it?

actually I expected to see some picture of Indy in the demo anyways. And also a 16 color version of the Binary Legends Logo.

I think it will also be a good idea to make a pc demo with some gfx we already have.
Do you guys agree?

Maybe we can use Monsieur Ouxx's star demo as a basis for such a demo?  :D
